Acne, medically known as Acne Vulgaris, is a skin disease that involves the oil glands at the base of hair follicles. It commonly occurs during puberty when the sebaceous (oil) glands come to life - the glands are stimulated by male hormones produced by the adrenal glands of both males and females. Acne is not dangerous, but can leave skin scars. Human skin has pores (tiny holes) which connect to oil glands located under the skin. The glands are connected to the pores via follicles - small canals. These glands produce Sebum, an oily liquid. The sebum carries dead skin cells through the follicles to the surface of the skin. A small hair grows through the follicle out of the skin. Pimples grow when these follicles get blocked, resulting in an accumulation of oil under the skin. The word acne comes from the word acme meaning "the highest point", which comes from the Greek akme meaning "point" or "spot" - it was originally mispelt, with an 'n' rather than an 'm' in 1835.

Coral is known as Praval or Moonga in ayurveda and is one of the most important medicine used as a rich source of natural calcium since ancient times in ayurveda. Calcium is essentially required in the human body for bone building and remodeling, plays an important role in signal transduction pathways, acting as a secondary messenger in neurotransmitter release from neurons, contraction of all muscle cell types and fertilization. Moonga or coral, are marine invertebrate. They secrete and form an exoskeleton which is composed of calcium carbonate, a source of natural calcium. Coral polyps are tiny, soft-bodied organisms related to sea anemones and jellyfish. The base is hard, protective limestone skeleton, that forms the structure of coral reefs. Reefs begin when a polyp attaches itself to a rock on the sea floor, then divides, or buds, into thousands of clones, creating a colony that acts as a single organism, grows over hundreds and thousands of years, join with other colonies and become reefs.

In his anthropomorphic images, Shiva is often shown as wearing the berries of ultrasum bead tree (Elaeocarpus ganitrus), popularly known as the Rudraksha . Atharvaveda, Puranas, Upanisads, tantrics and Ayurvedic texts, delineate the curative and healing properties of this tree. No single tree is as rich with legend as the Rudraksha. Some believe that it refers to the urethral passage through which Lord Shiva usually ejects the 'seed' amassed during the period of his long and severe austerities. According to the Shiva Purana, the berries of Rudraksha (Shiva’s eyes) represent the tears of Rudra which he shed in flutter, ‘from a desire of helping the world’, soon after he awoke from his meditative state. Amazed by the beauty of his own tears he crystallised them into the shape of seeds and distributed them among the four castes. Later, the trees of Rudraksha were raised by him in Gaud (Bengal), Mathura, Kashi and Ayodhy (all in Uttar Pradesh), Malaya and Sahya mountain ranges, Lanka and other places.

The caterpillar fungus, with the botanical name Ophiocordyceps sinensis, is a fungus that parasitizes and lives in the larvae of ghost moths, kills the larvae and mummifies them and produces a fruiting body from the corpse of the larva which is valued as a herbal remedy. It parasitizes moth caterpillars. In the fall, the fungal mycelia infect the caterpillar, and then kills it by early summer of the following year, releasing spores from the fruiting body. In the west, it is known as medicinal mushroom. It is a black, blade-shaped fungus found primarily in the high altitudes of the Tibetan plateau. The wild form of caterpiller fungus is rare and expensive; therefore a strain isolated from the wild form is cultivated and is more commonly used. Until 2007 it was known as Cordyceps but in 2007 it was renamed to caterpiller fungus .
Scientists have found a very unusual potential cancer-fighting technique: nanoparticles that carry curry into cancer cells. Specifically the particles were filled with curcumin, a compound found in curry. The research by scientists from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Austria was published in the Journal of Nanobiotechnology. Curcumin comes from the turmeric plant, which is commonly used in daals and other curries, and known for its distinctive bright yellow powder. We already knew that curcumin works as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Research has shown that when curcumin is absorbed by tumor cells, it stops the cell's growth cycle eventually killing the cell.
Hair is an important part of our body. Healthy hair enhances beauty of the body. People may not be aware that the visible hair called hair shaft or cuticle is non-living part and the living part lies under the skin. To ensure healthy hair production scalp skin must be kept healthy. There are glands in the human skin called sebaceous glands that produce an oily substance called sebum. This sebum protects hair and skin from micro organisms as it inhibits the growth of microorganisms on the skins. This oily substance give moisture and shine to the hairs and is distributed mechanically by brushing and combing. Brushing the scalp also stimulates the sebaceous glands which in turn produce more sebum. Washing of hairs removes excess of sweat and oil. There are various body conditions which influence the growth, color and texture of hairs. Hair may be affected by diseases of various systemic diseases as well as local conditions of the scalp. Diseases like hypothyroidism, hypopitutarism, diseases of supra renal glands, liver disorders and anemia have their influence on hairs. Few drugs and therapies like chemotherapy and radiotherapy which are used in cancer management are related to hair problems.
